The Busiest Synagogue in the U.S.
Congregation Shomrei Shabbos (1280 53rd Street, Brooklyn) opens its doors daily (except Saturday) at 4:00 AM for study groups and remains open until 2:15 AM.
Locals call it a "minyan factory" (the 10-male quorum needed for services) because of the non-stop services that go on there. There are 150 services a day, and at peak hours a minyan is formed every 4 minutes.
There is a coffee room with ten brands of coffee, tea, a wide variety of cakes, hot foods, and salads -- all available at no charge. Approximately eight hundred cups are used every day.
The thousands of people that pass through the synagogue have helped contribute to the development of the surrounding shopping strip, known as "The Avenue of Values."
